Update on Minimum Safe Manning – CoC according to STCW reg. II/5 and/or STCW reg. III/5
As of January 1, 2017 the STCW Manila 2010 enters into force internationally. This means that all Minimum Safe Manning Documents on merchant ships must be updated accordingly. This due to qualification requirements of Able Seafarer Deck and Able Seafarer Engine.
An Able Seafarer Deck/Engine must hold a Certificate of Competency according to the STCW requirements respectively as Able Seafarer Deck STCW reg. II / 5 or Able Seafarer Engine STCW reg. III / 5.
This also applies to vessels under 500 GT if the Minimum Safe Manning Document so requires.
This means that an updated Minimum Safe Manning Document will be sent in hearing at the shipping company, shortly. If the Faroese Maritime Authority has not heard back from you in two weeks, we assume you have accepted the updated Minimum Safe Manning document and the original document will be sent to you shortly hereafter.
If you have any questions regarding the above, please do not hesitate to contact the Faroese Maritime Authority.
