Executive Order on specific qualification requirements to manning on ships subject to the IGF Code.
On 1 July 2018 executive order on qualification requirements to manning on ships subject to the IGF Code entered into force.
According to the executive order the master on board a ship subject to the IGF Code shall ensure that all employed seafarers onboard receive appropriate ship and equipment information and instructions related to their shipboard duties. Seafarers on board responsible for assigned safety duties associated with the care or use of fuel or in emergency response to the fuel shall hold a certificate of proficiency, STCW reg. V/3, sec. 5. Furthermore, it is stipulated that masters, engineer officers and all other personnel with immediate responsibility for the care and use of fuels and fuel systems on board shall hold a certificate of proficiency in management, STCW reg. V/3, sec. 8.
The Faroese Maritime Authority issues the certificates mentioned in the executive order. However, the Faroese Maritime Authority may authorize other persons or institutions to issue the certificates. If that is the case, an institute of education or a course provider usually issues the certificates.
