HOW OFTEN IS MY SHIP TO BE CERTIFIED / INSPECTED?
Certified ships must be subject to the following:
- An initial inspection before 20 August 2013.
- An intermediate inspection between the second and third anniversary dates for the issue of the certificate.
- A renewal inspection at intervals of no more than 5 years.
Non-certified ships must be subject to inspections at intervals of no more than 3 years.
Special inspections and inspection intervals:
-
The Faroese Maritime Authority can order a ship to be subject to an extraordinary inspection.
-
In the case of ships that have been laid up, the Faroese Maritime Authority can permit that the prescribed periodic inspections are omitted in full or partly for as long as the ship remains laid up and no seafarers are engaged on board.
-
A complete inspection or a partial inspection, depending on the circumstances, must be carried out following major repairs or rebuildings involving considerable alterations of the accommodation spaces.
