A new executive order on medical examinations and medical certificates for seafarers has been promulgated. The executive order entered into force 30 August 2024.
This means that foreign Medical Certificates for seafarers are now approved for use on board Faroese ships.
In the new executive order, foreign medical certificates for seafarers are accepted onboard Faroese ships and when applying for a Faroese Certificate of Recognition if they are issued in accordance with the STCW Convention (Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers) and the MLC Convention (Maritime Labour Convention).
This means that it is no longer necessary for foreign seafarers to obtain a Faroese medical examination.
The new executive order is mainly based on the previous executive order on medical examinations for seafarers from 2013.
