QUALIFICATIONS OF SEAFARERS
Act on the manning of ships and Act on the maritime education programmes
Requirements for seafarers' qualifications are primarily regulated through the act on the manning of ships and the act on the maritime education programmes. A number of regulations have been issued pursuant to the two acts mentioned above, and those regulations fully consider the requirements of regulation 1.3. The Faroe Islands have ratified the STCW Convention. Thus, ship's officers holding both Faroese and foreign certificates of competency are certified in accordance with the STCW Convention, as amended. Similarly, other seafarers must be instructed about personal safety in accordance with the STCW Convention before the service is started on board.
