Sjóvinnustýrið has selected the Ship of the Year in FAS for 2024, and the winner is SJÓBORG from Skansi Offshore.
KONGSBORG, also from Skansi Offshore, took second place, while BRÚARFOSS from Eimskip secured third place.
Sjóborg has been in the top 3 for the past three years and this year claimed the top spot. This demonstrates a consistently high standard of quality from both the crew and the shipping company. By securing both first and second place in the competition, Skansi Offshore proves itself as a well-managed shipping company.
The Paris MoU White List is crucial for both FAS and the competitiveness of Faroese shipping. Therefore, we appreciate the dedication of crews and shipping companies in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of their vessels.
Sjóvinnustýrið’s "Ship of the Year" initiative aims to encourage well-established procedures and good conduct on board while recognizing those who excel in their work.
The winner is honored with a certificate of recognition and a public press release.
The Ship of the Year is the vessel that achieves the best operational performance in the previous year. This result is determined by reviewing Port State Control (PSC) inspections over the past three years. Inspections with zero deficiencies are counted and rewarded as follows:
- Expanded Inspection – 3 points
- More Detailed Inspection – 2 points
- Initial Inspection – 1 point
Ships over 500 GT that operate in the Paris MoU region but have not been inspected in this area previously received 3 points annually. However, from this year onward, these ships will instead receive 1 point, equivalent to an Initial Inspection.
If multiple ships achieve the same score, priority is given to those with no remarks in their class records and no observations from other regulatory authorities.
This is the 11th time that Sjóvinnustýrið has selected the Ship of the Year.
